Iranian Exiles Chart Path to Freedom While DC Slept

While Washington’s foreign policy establishment spent decades enriching Tehran mullahs through sanctions relief and nuclear deals, Iranian patriots were quietly building the foundation for their homeland’s liberation. Last weekend’s Free Iran Convention delivered a thunderbolt message that should wake up every America First patriot: regime change in Iran isn’t just possible—it’s inevitable.

Over 1,000 Iranian-Americans, joined by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other U.S. officials, declared their unified support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran’s democratic transition plan. This wasn’t another neoconservative fever dream of nation-building through military intervention. This was something far more powerful: organized resistance by freedom-loving people who understand what constitutional government actually means.

The NCRI’s Ten-Point Plan reads like a love letter to America’s founding principles. Universal suffrage, separation of church and state, gender equality, and federalism—concepts that would transform the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism into a constitutional republic virtually overnight. Unlike the chaos that followed regime changes in Iraq and Libya, Iran’s democratic opposition has spent four decades preparing detailed frameworks for peaceful transition.

Consider the strategic implications for American interests. A free Iran would immediately end the regime’s $150 billion annual funding pipeline to Hamas, Hezbollah, and Houthi terror networks that have destabilized the Middle East for generations. American energy companies would gain access to some of the world’s largest oil and gas reserves, currently locked away by theocratic mismanagement. Regional military commitments could be reduced as Iran transforms from America’s greatest adversary to a natural strategic partner.

The economic potential alone should excite every patriot concerned about American competitiveness. Iran’s educated population of 85 million, freed from religious tyranny, would create massive opportunities for trade partnerships while eliminating the terrorism tax that has cost American taxpayers trillions in Middle East military operations.

What makes this moment particularly compelling is how it exposes the utter bankruptcy of establishment foreign policy thinking. While State Department bureaucrats were negotiating with Iranian terror masters and sending pallets of cash to Tehran, the real solution was organizing right under their noses. The MEK resistance movement has documented networks of “Resistance Units” across all 31 Iranian provinces—intelligence capabilities that no external military intervention could ever match.

The Iranian-American leadership at this convention represents legal immigration at its finest. These patriots fled tyranny, embraced American constitutional principles, and now stand ready to help rebuild their homeland according to the same freedoms that made America great. It’s a stark contrast to the chaos at our southern border, showing how merit-based immigration strengthens rather than weakens our republic.

President Reagan proved that supporting freedom fighters could topple seemingly invincible communist regimes without American casualties or trillion-dollar occupations. The Iranian democratic opposition offers a similar “Third Option” that achieves regime change through indigenous resistance rather than neoconservative nation-building schemes or globalist appeasement policies.

Current intelligence suggests the regime is entering its final crisis phase. Nationwide protests, economic collapse, and military overstretch from Ukraine to Gaza have created unprecedented vulnerability. The question isn’t whether change is coming to Iran—it’s whether America will position itself to benefit from that inevitable transformation.

Patriots should demand that our leaders embrace this Reagan-style opportunity to support constitutional principles globally while advancing concrete American interests. After four decades of failed policies that enriched our enemies while ignoring our natural allies, the path forward has never been clearer.

The Iranian people are ready for freedom. The democratic framework exists. The strategic opportunity is undeniable. Now America must choose whether to lead this transformation or watch from the sidelines as history unfolds without us.
