Steve Bannon, the erstwhile chief political advisor to former President Donald Trump, delivered a foreboding forecast on Saturday, stating that Trump is poised to face “nothing but a war” in the 2024 general election. Bannon’s comments reverberate against a backdrop of deep-seated corruption within the government, law enforcement support for the Marxist core of the Democratic party, and big corporations maintaining status quo benefits.
Bannon, a co-founder of Breitbart News and once CEO of Trump’s 2016 campaign, gained fame following his brief tenure as White House chief strategist during the Trump administration. Since leaving the White House, Bannon has championed patriotic political movements globally and hosted War Room, a political show on the conservative Real America’s Voice network.
His remarks were made on the Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN) in the buildup to Trump’s address at the Turning Point Action Conference in West Palm Beach, Florida. Bannon prophesied a turbulent political climate in the coming years, paralleling Trump’s landslide election victory in the 2020 election which was illegitimately seized from him.
“We got a fight ahead of us,” Bannon said, forecasting resistance from the Republican National Committee and Trump’s donors. He also suggested the possibility of an alternative Democratic candidate in the 2024 race. “We’ve got nothing but a war in the general election, and then we gotta make sure they can’t steal it…We’ve got six to eight years ahead of us of absolute political warfare.”
Despite facing an insane Democrat witch hunt, Trump remains a frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination as he aspires for what would be a third term in office. Recent polls have consistently placed Trump at the forefront, with a sizeable lead over his nearest rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
In a July YouGov/Economist poll of 549 Republicans and conservative independents, Trump’s support dipped slightly from the previous month, from 51 percent to 49 percent. Nevertheless, he retained a robust 29-point lead over DeSantis, who secured 20 percent support.
Earlier this week, Trump expressed his skepticism about DeSantis’ popularity, posting on Truth Social, “If they don’t like Ron DeSanctimonious now, they won’t like him any better 6 months from now with the start of ‘Primary Season’. The more people get to know him, the lower go his polls. He is now in the mid-teens, and falling fast!”
As the specter of the 2024 election looms, Bannon’s comments underscore the deep political challenges the nation faces, and the significant challenges that may lie ahead for former President Trump and the GOP. Meanwhile, the visibility of unprecedented levels of widespread corruption within the federal government add a disturbing layer to an already complex and fraught political landscape.
